Coach Fabian Luna returns for his fifth year at the helm of the Oilers Boys Basketball Program. In four years, Coach Luna has brought back a lot of excitement to the Huntington Beach basketball program, and brought back a League Championship to the school for the first since 1993 in 2009. "Our goal this year is to bring another title home, and coming back into the Sunset League the timing could not be any better". Last year, the Oilers coming off very successful seasons decided to schedule a very challenging schedule. The team got off to a great start, but several close losses and other issues hampered the Oilers efforts early. In league, the Oilers again got off to a great start, but struggled towards the end of the season. But, Coach Luna felt that last year was important to the development of the team this year. "We played a lot of the top programs in Southern California last year and we competed with all of them, we just lacked the experience to get us over the hump and win some of those close ones. In the long run, last years schedule will help us this year and now we have all the experience and confidence to have a great year". This year Coach Luna comes in with an experienced and talented group that will be ready for a big season. "We only lost one player and we added some quality kids from our JV team. We have the talent to beat anyone on any given night, but we need to play as a TEAM consistently to reach our goals". The Oilers return all five starters, and several key reserves from last year and added some key players to provide what Coach Luna calls; "a very solid and balanced team". He believes that this year's version of the Oilers does not have any super stars, but a strong cast of players who on any given night can see any one of them leading the way. "We have a lot of good solid players this year. Hopefully, we continue to get better every game we hit the floor this year". Coach Luna expects that this year's team will make a very good run in the C.I.F. playoffs as well. "By the time playoffs come around, our experience will pay big dividends for us". The Oilers remain in Division IIAA and again look to be very competitive in that division.
